Questions about freeze-dried dog food
Freeze-drying is a method of drying through deep freezing and sublimation. It preserves the product in nearly its original form—taste, nutrients, and structure. Freeze-dried products are lightweight, durable, quick to prepare, and suitable for various uses (from food to medical and research).
Our products are manufactured under strict inspection by the Veterinary Administration of Slovenia, Food Safety Department. Production adheres to HACCP standards, and we are the only Slovenian producer of this type of food that meets all required standards.
The food does not contain bacteria harmful to dogs. When using freeze-dried food, hygiene standards must be observed to prevent human contamination (do not wash your dog’s dishes with the sponge you use for your own dishes; wash your hands thoroughly with soap and lukewarm water after handling freeze-dried food).
We source ingredients from Slovenian suppliers; they are 100% natural (meat, fruit, vegetables, salmon oil). The ingredients are mostly of Slovenian origin, but not exclusively (e.g., salmon oil, some vegetables).
- Beef (500 g): 75% beef (meat from head, esophagi, tracheas, heart trims, up to 7% liver, penile muscle), 25% fruits and vegetables (carrot, celeriac root, apple, parsley, salmon oil).
- Horse meat (500 g): 70% horse meat (same parts as above), 20% fruits and vegetables (as above), 10% ground bones.
More details for each product can be found under the “Additional Information” tab on the product page.
It’s sensible to introduce it as soon as puppies begin transitioning to solid food. During this early period, the development of gut microflora is very important.
Often, industrial dry food is the cause of many health issues in dogs. Switching to natural, freeze-dried food often makes most health problems “miraculously” disappear— all kinds of allergies, inflammations, digestive issues, gastritis, etc.
Questions about feeding with freeze-dried food
- Adult dogs: 7 g per kg of body weight + 15 ml water; ratio: 1/3 food + 2/3 water.
- Puppies: 160–300 g + 330–660 ml water; same ratio: 1/3 food + 2/3 water.
Any dietary change can cause digestive issues, so introduce gradually. Initially, replace 20–25% of the regular meal with freeze-dried food; reduce the original meal accordingly. If there’s no diarrhea, increase the freeze-dried portion by 10%, continuing until it’s the dog’s full diet.
Weigh the required amount of freeze-dried food, add water, wait 3 minutes, then feed.
Generally not! Good4Dogs freeze-dried food is a complete, balanced meal for canines. We only recommend adding meaty bones once or twice a week—for natural calcium and phosphorus, stronger jaws, dental hygiene—and dogs love it. It’s up to the owner.
Yes, but the effects won’t be the same as feeding solely freeze-dried food.
